Wigwam construction in our new shop

This fourth-grade wigwam project is cause for celebration. This is the first father-son carpentry project in the new workshop. It’s been a long time since they built the winning Pinewood Derby car for Cub Scouts back in Rhinecliff. (Susan frets about sawdust in a Passive House carpentry shop but Chris swears to vacuum.) Lily decided that she wanted to build a wigwam, too. She’s using the drill press to make 16 holes for twigs.

Happy Anniversary

In our old house, a framed wedding invitation hung on the wall. Maybe I would have gotten the date right if it still did. Like almost everything else we own, it has been in storage for a year and a half. Our wedding anniversary was September 26th. Chris looked puzzled when I insisted it was today, the 28th. My mother had the proof on her piano, amid the family photos. Above is the scanned evidence.

Congratulations to Orca House

Usually when I tell friends we are building a Passive House, they look puzzled. “A what house?” But when I told Amy Whitman she declared, “Of COURSE you are! Why would you build anything else?” I hadn’t seen her in 15 years. During that time she had put her health supply procurement skills to good use and become a Sustainable Building Advisor. She is part of the team tied for 3rd place in the Living Aleutian Home Design Competition. Congratulations to Amy and the Orca House team! [Susan]
